Time Away


When kindergarten starts next year, we will have big leg up.  Not only will there be English spoken from time to time, but the hours our little one will be away from us will actually be LESS than it is right now.  Short school days are not something the Chinese excel at, and we have thus become experts at every possible technique for combating separation anxiety.  Our favorite game is stolen from “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn.  Each morning our daughter gets kisses in her palm which she keeps all day, and we keep hers in return.  There is no way of knowing precisely how comforting this is for her, but the routine has persisted, and so too, will the kisses.  What routines do you have to combat time away from loved ones?
